Intermittent fasting (IF) is a pattern of eating that alternates between periods of fasting (usually meaning consumption of water only) and non-fasting. A specific form of IF is alternate day fasting (ADF), which is a 48-hour routine typically composed of a 24-hour fast followed by a 24-hour non-fasting period. (ADF is also sometimes referred to as every other day (EOD) fasting, or sometimes every other day feeding (EODF).) Another form is to eat only one meal per day with no other food intake. There is some evidence that intermittent fasting may have beneficial effects on the health and longevity of animals—including humans—that are similar to the effects of caloric restriction (CR). There is currently no consensus as to the degree to which this is simply due to an (often) concomitant overall decrease in calories. (IF and CR are forms of Dietary Restriction (DR), which is sometimes referred to as Dietary Energy Restriction (DER).) Scientific study of intermittent fasting in rats (and anecdotally in humans) was carried out at least as early as 1943. From Wikipedia under the

Answered by confusedmoon - Mon Mar 29 18:06:36 2010 My dog has intermittent jaundice and orange urine. Why? Q. About two weeks ago I noticed that my 5 year old dog's urine was orange, so I took her to the vet right away. The vet noticed that she had jaundice (yellow eyes, and yellow inside of her ears) She was given Flagyl and an antibiotic and a pill to help liver function. They did a blood test and a urinalysis, and her liver function values were very high. She has continued on these medications for the past two weeks, and has definitely improved. She has acted completely normal throughout the whole time, she eats normally and is very playful. It's just that now, her yellow eyes and orange urine are intermittent. Yesterday morning her urine was yellow, but by the evening when my husband and I took her for a walk, it was orange again. Answered by Maria L - Fri Jan 30 12:49:00 2009 Has anyone had a dog with uncontrollable head twitches?
Q. My 5 month old chihuahua pomeranian is having involuntary head twitches. It isn't shivering or anything that fast. It's a head shake back and forth but not really fast, almost like a bobble head and he is putting his head between his paws to stop it. I will take him to the vet tomorrow but it is intermittent and I want an idea what it is and how to describe it. Asked by Steve M - Sun Oct 4 23:24:37 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The chihuahua has also quite a few congenital-breed-specific health issues and shivering and hypoglycemia are two of them. Shivering: Shivering is a common occurrence in Chihuahuas. The mechanics of why they shiver or tremble is unclear but it usually occurs when the dog is excited, stressed, or cold.
