Asked by onehunglow s - Mon Dec 24 22:52:44 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you don't want to exercise, then so much for the unlimited willpower. Minimum calories is different for everyone. If you want to lose fat for good, there are no miracle diets sorry, you need to exercise and eat a healthy diet. You can keep bouncing around on weak diet plans for the next 10 years until you realize this and hope its not too late, or you can start now.

Can some mental problems be caused by malnutrition?
Q. Does anyone know if some mental problems such as depression, anxiety and others can be caused by malnutrition, specifically not getting the recommended nutrients needed? Has anyone with mental problems tried to eat better and gotten positive results with their mental state? For myself, my diet is horrible. I don't eat enough and my diet mainly consists of fatty, fried foods, sugars and carbohydrates. Vegetables and fruits are not on my menu except for V8 V-Fusion juice.

A. Absolutely. They can make a difference. But for specifics I'd have to do a lot of reserach. Get yourself a food pyramid guide and see for yourself. But generally it takes more than a healthy diet to rid yourself of depression or anxiety. A healthy body though will help you combat other things.

A. why sure! it's called fatty liver or NASH. malnutrition is a hard way of putting it, more than likely they were on the wrong diet, ie, too little fat absorbtion or too much. extreme weight loss or weight gain can cause nash. other things can cause cirrhosis like iron, viral infections (hep b or c), over the counter meds.

What is the difference between starvation and malnutrition?
Q. i need to discuss the difference between starvation and malnutrition
Asked by lalallalallalallaa - Thu May 28 04:26:07 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. With starvation you do not get the minimum number of calories you need to survive. The body begins the process of breaking itself down just to keep basic systems running. Starvation implies that there isn't enough food to eat, or you simply are not eating. Malnutrition occurs when the food you eat provides the calories, but not the necessary vitamins and minerals you need to stay healthy. You can be obese, and malnourished, believe it or not. Malnutrition may happen because healthy foods are not available that would provide what you need, or the food is available but you will not or do not eat it.

A. Actions have been done to alleviate malnutrition by different government agencies. The most dominant actions have been done by the Department of Health (link below). Some of these actions were pronounced by Leticia Ramos Shahani in her speech at the World Food Summit (link below). There are also steps done by the Nutrition Center of the Philippines (link below). A. Look up "Kwashiorkor" in Wikipedia -- that's the word for the condition that results in the distended tummies that you see when you see malnourished children on TV. Malnutrition affects children's energy level, brain development, and physical development and, accordingly, their prospects as adults. They are slower to recover from other illnesses, generally won't learn as quickly or as well, often won't simply see as well as if they'd been adequately nourished with appropriate vitamins and minerals. Extreme malnutrition/ starvation also kills a large number of children every day.

What are the psychological affects of malnutrition in children?
Q. Anything that affects development and growth. Mostly psychological.
Asked by abel p - Wed Aug 9 22:20:42 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The effects of malnutrition in children are many and, unfortunately, are often irreversable. Initially, of course, there are the physical manifestations: slowed growth rate, lack of energy. Then the kwashinor effect -- the pot belly that looks as though the child had over-eaten, but in fact its stomach is empty. As the child falls behind in physical development, a similar process in taking place with its mental development. The brain is an organ, and must be nourished to work properly. Malnutrition prevents this, and a malnourished brain can not learn as a healthy brain can. The psychological effects include lethargy (in part this is a physical manifestation, but it also becomes psychological, as there is no longer a reason to care. It… [cont.]

Will my hair grow back after having malnutrition?
Q. *It's been almost a year since I started eating less. *I will be turning 15 years old and already lost half the thickness of my hair. *I already visited a doctor. * I am also taking an iron supplement.
Asked by Ruby XD - Sun Aug 23 11:49:46 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hi, hair needs iron and nutrient to grow. Taking iron supplement helps in 'maintaining' your hair, but a balance diet is as much important for healthy hair. Eating less is ok but remember you have to eat healthy. As long as you have enough vitamins and nutrients back in your body, your healthy hair will be back too. :) Be patient and continue to eat healthy, reach out to vitamins tablet if needed.

What are a few good, reasonably feasible solutions to ending hunger in Africa and malnutrition in Africa?
Q. This is for a school project, and I'm really stumped!
Asked by MaCall M - Fri Jul 24 02:44:27 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are no reasonably feasible solutions for ending hunger and malnutrition in Africa. Africa is so diverse and complex between tribes and between countries, and with so much war and government corruption, that nothing is reasonable feasible. The real way to end hunger and malnutrition is to bring Africa out of the third world with education, clean water, health care and family management. As long as so many people stay poor, families will be larger and unhealthier and in need of more food. Most families have more than 5 or 6 children. If we give them all a good education, and good health care, people will start to live better lives. And as people start to live better lives, the average family size goes down which means that they won't [cont.]

A. I hope you realize that is exactly how Terri Schiavo ended up in a vegetative state... she went on a severe 6 week diet and had a stroke from potassium deficiency. I would say at three or four weeks, your body will begin to suffer. Try to at least take a vitamin supplement. They have very few calories. I think what you are attempting is futile, though. You're mainly losing muscle and water weight... it would be so much better for your body if you ate well and exercised more to lose... Stop being in such a hurry to lose the weight. After all, the goal is to be healthy, right? What your'e doing is not healthy.

Q. Any ideas, comments or facts would be appreciated. and if you got the information from a website, could you please provide the link too? thanks in advance!!
Asked by little stars - Thu Oct 9 07:27:45 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The costs of malnutrition are high. On a personal level, people do not have enough energy to work or concentrate, are more susceptible to disease, and have an overall poor quality of life. The social costs of these conditions can be enormous. Think about the driver who can't concentrate , the worker unable to complete the job, the medical cost and lowered life spans from diseases, and the fact that those who are malnourished are far less likely to motivated to vote, clean their yards, join the school committee or do many other things that help society function.

What do you guys think about this? A six year old child hospitalised for treatment due to malnutrition?
Q. This is the son of a 'friend' of mine. He's got 7 cavaties, wear and tear of a 30 year old, and is losing enamel of most of his teeth. The reason for this? 3 takeaway meals a day, most days, no water or milk to drink, ever, and lots and lots of sugar, lollies, and sweet drinks. He's calcium and vitamin deficiant, and had to be hospitalised recently for four days to be given laxative meds through a nasal tube because he was so badly constipated. This woman gets over $1000 a fortnight, through maintenence and social security (we live in Australia), and has huge problems looking after her son (obviously). Oh, and child welfare says there's nothing they can do!!! Sorry for the rant, I had to get this off my chest! Feel free to comment!… [cont.]
