How quickly do anorexics lose weight?
Q. One of my closest friends has lost a lot of weight lately, and I think she may have an eating disorder. About how quickly do anorexics lose weight? I'm really worried about her.
Asked by Sunshine - Sat Jun 20 00:37:06 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In the beginning, as much as a pound a day. The weight loss will slow after the person has lost a great deal however. Don't make a judgment based solely on weight loss. She may actually just be working out like a fiend and eating more healthily. You should observe her eating habits if possible, maybe ask her to lunch and see if she eats a normal amount, and make sure she doesn't go to the bathroom immediately after finishing her plate.

Why do so many anorexics cut themselves?
Q. Although not everyone, I have noticed that a lot of anorexics practice self-mutilation, and more commonly than the average non-anorexic person. Why is this? btw, please don't start telling me that "oh people cut themselves because they need to feel..." or "cutting isn't a suicide attempt" etc because that is not what I am asking. I just want to know why it's common in anorexics.

A. i wouldn't know anything about anorexia, but i bet they cut for the same reason anyone else would. i know that i cut so that i can feel less pain. i know that it sounds backwards, but there you go. in every case, it's different. you can't say that all anorexics cut because whatever and everyone else cuts because of this. for me, it's not a suicide thing and it makes the pain go away for a little bit. for someone else, it could be entirely different.

Why do crash dieters gain weight when they start eating normally but anorexics dont?
Q. What i mean it when someone goes on a crash diet they might loose tons of weight. But they end of gaining it back and them some. But anorexics when they start eating again they don't really balloon up,they gain slowly and steadily, Could it be the crash dieter is binge eating? Can someone explain this? thanks

A. They say that it takes you roughly the same length of time to gain weight as it did to lose it, that is why most people that crash diet also tend to put weight back on quickly. How long did it take you initially to lose the weight? Many people in your situation will have lost most of their weight within the first few months, and then it is more a matter of avoiding gaining it back that keeps them restricting. After restricting, your body needs to build itself back up! After doing so, it also tends to overshoot your starting weight slightly as it is repairing itself, and allowing everything to stabilise again. After your body is functioning normally, it should sit at a pretty stable weight, maybe even lowering slightly. Lo Carb like… [cont.]

If people say you're body will gain weight if you eat less than 1200kcal a day, why are anorexics skinny?
Q. I don't understand why people keep saying if you eat less than 1200kcal a day you're body will store fat and you'll put on weight. I understand this concept if you started eating a lot again, but anorexics eat less than 800kcal a day usually and they are stick thin so i can't help but say how that contradicts what people say. Can someone help me out here?

How can anorexics starve themselves?

A. I think the body can only hold on to fat for a certain amount of time until it needs to start burning fat as a last resort. Otherwise we wouldn't need to eat at all.

A. In order for a woman to menstruate, become pregnant, and give birth to a healthy baby she needs body fat. Many anorexic girls and women either never get their period or their period stops due to extreme weight loss. The cessation of menstruation, (amenorrhea), can be permanent depending on how long a woman has been suffering from anorexia, and if this is the case then they will be infertile. But for most women menstruation will start up when they begin to gain weight. Roughly 80% of anorexic women who successfully treat their eating disorder will regain their ability to conceive. Q. How are underweight people treated in a hospital? What sort of treatments do they undergo? How are they monitored and forced to gain weight?

A. there is; Feeding you through a tube if you are bluntly refusing to eat. Or confining you to a room and only giving you food and water. With no space to excercise. Orr, you may just have to live in an ED unit being constantly monitered ans weighed, and they ensure that you consume alott of calories so that you gain about 1kg a week. It depends how high priority they think you are. :/ there is quite alot of phychiatrists included though.

A. Thats because they little eating such a small amount, if at all, that their body starts to eat off of itself. Not a pleasant thought I know. What many fail to realize is that it starts by eating the vital muscles and organs first before it goes to fat and that is just one of the reasons why anorexia is so dangerous.

How much pounds does Anorexics loose a day or so ?
Q. (health project)how much do they loose in a day or it takes a while to loose weight but how much ?
Asked by ananamous - Sat Jul 19 16:13:16 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It takes about 3500 calories deficit to lose weight. So if someone only takes in about 400 calories in a day (which is very low because 1600 calories is the minimum that most doctors recommend, and 800 is considered a stricter diet), and if you waste 1200 calories each day through normal metabolic activity and activity, then it should take about 3 day to lose a pound (eg 1200 calories consumed - 4800 calories wasted = - 3600 calories (ie calorie deficit) = 1 pound). But they may lose more weight if they vomit and lose water weight, and the weight loss may not be as fast if their metabolism slows down and their body starts to shut down. So they would start to lose more slowly.

Is there a way to tell anorexics apart from natural ectomorphs?
Q. Since the body probably breaks down fat differently when you suffer from an eating disorder, I was wondering if there are any physical traits of starvation that you don't usually see in ectomorphs. I've been looking at a lot of runway models and celebrities, and I'm always trying to pick out which ones might be anorexic.

A. usually their cheekbones are more prominent and ectomorphic people typically just have a smaller frame anorexics can have a big frame or be broad but with no fat anorexics also have deathly looking joints, look at the elbows and knees, if they're super pointy thats a sign, and also the thighs are not supposed to be more than like 5 inches apart naturally skinny people still have SOME fat on them, deathly anorexic people will have too much of a space between their legs that is NOT natural long-time anorexics also have very thinned out hair, and sometimes their hands look like skeletons theres definitely a differene between naturally and healthily skinny and deathly anorexic skinny

Do anorexics lose weight faster then people who eat right and exercise?
Q. People who abuse drugs and don't eat or people who are just anorexic seem to lose weight so much faster then people who eat right and exercise. Of course it's sooo much more unhealthy. Why does this happen? People who just rarely ever eat seem to get skinny so much faster. ?
Asked by Liz B - Tue Jun 3 20:14:56 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments
A. They lose a great deal of muscle weight and muscle weighs more than fat does. Your body can use either one for energy, but prefers carbohydrates, then fat, then protein. When you are not eating right and not exercising, your body has no other choice but to break down fat and muscle to get the amino acids it needs to survive. Also, your body hits a certain point where it goes into a starvation mode and can live on fewer calories. Eventually you suffer from nutrient deficiencies and can lose your hair, your teeth, women's menstrual cycles stop and you end up in the hospital. Be anorexic long enough and you end up dead.

Can anorexics get their periods back after losing them?
Q. I know how they lose them after a while, but if they ever start eating normal again, will they ever get them back?

A. yes they will they stop a regular flow because the body instead uses those nutrients and produces no menstruation. SO after resuming normal regulated diet they will be able to develop a normal menstruation again.

What is the ABC diet in relation to Anorexics?
Q. Alright so I have been hearing about this diet. It stands for Ana boot camp. Now I know what it consist. But I don t understand is it something that the Pro Ana Community does(since they believe anorexia is a life style rather than a disorder) or is it just like a wannabe anorexic diet. Sorry if this doesn t make much since. But can you help me out?

A. Most people who are anorexics won't even admit that they are. Most girls who create things like "ABC" are not really anorexics. They are wanna be's... anorexia is about not eating and having self image issues. Girls like that generally don't blog about "deit plans" for anorexics. Maybe i am wrong, I don't think so tho.
