How do controlled carbs factor into a low card diet?
Q. On the side of my packaged food where the nutritiion facts are, there is a red box that says carb facts. It calculates controlled carbs away from total carbs and it ends up with digestible carbs.
Asked by Pixo - Thu May 29 17:12:15 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The controlled carbs are because of the way the pasta is made. Only a small Part of the carbs are absorbed in the small intestine. The rest passes through to the large one where the carbs, in most cases, aren't absorbed. Be aware that the calorie count remains the same. This is usually not low calorie though - be sure to check that out.

A. pills..drugs...food..ever yone misses the most important aspect..exercise...if people would exercise more they would not have to worry so darn much about food...Are you really serious about doing this? We are talking about hard work. Putting down your little debbies, getting off your butt and not only going on a diet but exercising!!! Even if you lose the weight it will come right back if you do not have the desire and motivation to not only look cute but to be healthy. it is going to take alot of inner strength I can assure you of that. 1.) eat 4-5 small meals a day 2.) drink lots of water 3.)exercise every day 4.) do not eat 4-6 hours before you sleep instead of an Atkins diet I suggest the South Beach Diet

Asked by lady2 - Thu Jan 8 16:35:57 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Bad carbs are considered "white carbs" Good carbs are foods loaded in fiber such as whole wheat bread. Check the fiber content and if it is high in fiber it is typically a good carb.. It works trust me...I tend to eat all my whole wheat carbs in the early morning and afternoon.

What foods have the most carbs and what foods have the most protein?
Q. I'm trying to eat the most carbs and the most protein I can. Which foods carry the MOST of each?
Asked by TyAsya - Tue Nov 24 13:23:10 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Carbs- Almost every food contains at least a small amount of carbohydrates. Grains, fruits, and vegetables are high in carbohydrates. Some fruit and vegetables are much lower in carbohydrates than other are. All food that are breads, grains, fruit and sugar are all carbohydrates. Such things as bread, pasta, pizza, cereal, biscuits, crackers, sweets (in moderation), potatoes, vegetables, fruit, juice, etc. Protein- Pulses - e.g. beans, peas, lentils * Tofu * Quorn * Dairy products - e.g. yoghurt, cheese * Nuts & seeds * Wholegrains - e.g. wholemeal bread, porridge oats, brown rice * red and white meat * fish hope this is helpful!!!

How many carbs per meal is good for a diabetic to eat?
Q. Just diagnosed with diabetes. Having trouble finding out how many carbs per meal or total per day is healthy? I know about portion control/size, just need a number to go by.
Asked by Aunt Fefi - Wed Mar 21 03:33:39 2007 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This is certainly a discussion that should be between you and your doctor and/or nutritionist. When I was dignosed the nutrtionist (that specialized in diabetics) took into account if the patient had any other factors other than diabetes such as the need to loose weight, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, etc. The recommended carb intake range varied greatly among the people in the group in which I was placed. The lowest was 30 per meal and the highest was 60 per meal with most falling somewhere in between. Some were encouraged to have snacks of 15-20 grams/carbs between meals and some were not. Again, my point here is that it was completely tailored to the individual. Please ask your doctor's office for a referral to a diabetes… [cont.]

What's the difference between carbs and calories?
Q. For body building and athletics in general should I be focusing on foods high in carbs or high in calories? Are carbs made up of calories? Kinda confused here!
Asked by CanMan - Wed Apr 30 13:40:41 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Calories are how much energy it takes to move 1 liter of water 1 degree centegrade. Carbs are simply energy that your body turns to sugar if you don't use it. I would focus on carbs since they give you energy and calories are in all foods anyways.

What should the protein to carbs rate be?
Q. So I workout and after I have a protein shake and bar. I just found a bar that has 32 grams of protein, but has 26 grams of carbs. Is that not good? How many grams of protein should there be for each gram of carbs?
Asked by Matt H - Tue Sep 8 19:09:24 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. How much carbs and protein you will need depends on body weight and your fat percent and your workout. But ratio for a post workout meal should me 1:2 or 1:3 protein to carbs. Protein bars are great but as a post workout supplement go for something else. The reason is protein bar contains fat [ Healthy though ] Its good to consume healthy fat but after your workout your muscles are like sponge Fat slows down the blood circulation speed. So micronutrients will reach to muscles comparatively slow. Its better you have your protein shake and a glass of fruit juice. Or just eat an apple or banana. Fruit Because fruit contains fructose which is consumed by human body very quickly. And after your workout your glycogen stores are empty… [cont.]

How many Carbs for a lower calorie eating plan?
Q. How many carbs a day for a 1400 calorie eating plan (I don't like the word diet LOL)? I know for 2000 calories its 300. Thanks for the help. It says it on the daily nutrional value section on the bottom of almost everything. I saw it on a box of cereal.

A. Wow. Where are you getting 300 on a 2000 calorie diet? That's 15% so, if you were trying to maintain the 15% on 1400, you'd need 210. That's really low on carbs though. 30% is a good percentage based on what I have read...

A. This is a complex topic. Please read "Eat More, Weigh Less" by Dr. Dean Ornish. Go to the library and borrow the book. My personal choice is to avoid junk food and eat raw whole foods as much as possible. That means leafy green vegetables, other vegetables, fruits, sprouted beans, brown rice, and whole grains. Eat some vegetarian sources of oil (these are required), but don't over do it. You do not need to eat dairy or meat for a healthy diet if you eat a balanced vegetarian diet. If you do eat them, do it in limited quantities. Most degenerative diseases are from over consumption of protein and fat rich foods. Avoid convenience and packaged foods because they contain excitotoxins, colorings, preservatives, and other additives that may… [cont.]

Why are there no carbs in beef?
Q. Cows eat grass, which is stored as glycogen in the muscles. Then why is there no carbs in beef?

A. It's not like 0.0 carbs. There's a tiny little bit. A lot of the glycogen is in the liver. The liver holds almost as much glycogen as every muscle group combined.

How many calories of carbs does your body store before turning them into fat?
Q. And is that affected at all by any other factors (like if you are tired, or if you just worked out, etc.) Also, how long does it usually take timewise for your body to turn food into carbs, and then those carbs into fat? I know it depends how high on the GI scale that is and all that, but in general, if I eat an average meal, nothing too unhealthy but not necessarily perfectly healthy, then how long will it take for that food to be converted to carbs then fat?
Asked by V H - Sat Sep 6 22:18:13 2008 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments

A. your body does NOT store carbs, carbs automatically get converted to sugar by the liver and when that sugar goes unused the sugar is stored in the form of fat. twenty minutes of cario in your target heart rate zone burns immediate sugars, after 20 min you hit your stored fuels.

Asked by GIRLPOWER - Mon Aug 18 08:12:55 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. it's pretty simple. good carbs are derived from whole foods which are naturally occurring and consumed in the natural state such as whole oats, beans, lentils, whole grain rice, fruits and veggies. bad carbs are processed foods and made by man, foods like baked breads, heavily processed cereal grains, foods that contain high fructose corn syrup, etc. basically any food made by man that can dissolve in the mouth is not healthy. foods that dissolve in the mouth are nothing more than simple sugars

Asked by Luigi - Sat May 16 08:13:49 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 20/a day for first 2 weeks this puts your body in ketosis...really hard need alot of will power to do 20/day...then you slowly can add more..about 35-40/day for the next year. You'll probably find it extremely difficult to get slim using a Low Carb Dieting Plan. Low carb diets have recently become popular over the last couple years, but the problem with low carb menus is that they are too strict and too hard to follow for average people. Low carb menus tend to rob your body of too much energy (carbohydrates) and make it nearly impossible to remain on the program for very long. This is why so many dieters find it difficult to follow a strict low carbohydrate menu.

How many carbs and sugars should a Hypoglycemic have per day?
Q. I have recently been diagnosed with Hypoglycemia. My doctor put me on a low carb/sugar and high protein/fiber diet, but I am not certain just how much sugar and carbs I should have. I have tried buying things as low in sugar as possible, but am so confused! Help!!
Asked by Amy G - Sat Feb 7 21:37:04 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hypoglycemia is not a condition or a disease but rather a transient symptom. Your doctor would be able to answer this question best. Your symptoms come and go in passing and he wants you to maintain a healthy diet. It's that simple. You don't need to buy anything special like low sugar foods, just stick to a healthy diet. Visit a dietitian for more information.
