Q. I was listening to a talk show on the radio about a discussion on the above question. There are some sperm clinics that refuse to take sperm donations from people with sexually transmitted deceases (STD) and apparently there are some that do. The host mentioned there is legislation to make all sperm clinics that refuse to take sperm donations from people with STD's to start taking their donations. The host also said there is a process to "cleanse" the deceased donations but its not 100% safe. What do you think? Asked by Sun S. - Thu May 14 13:18:43 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. It's not safe. There is no "right" in this, it's not discrimination, it's done for the safety of both the mother and the potential fetus, who could both contract the disease. Why would you choose to have the risk at all when it could be avoided? If they have an incurable STD (as these would be, otherwise they could get treated and then donate), I think the last inclination of that person should be to donate sperm. Spermbanks have every right to deny anyone's unsafe donation. Plus, "cleansing", if it even worked, is probably expensive for the company. Why should they be required to accept it, when there are healthy men to donate sperm.
