A clinic (or an outpatient clinic) is a small private or public health facility that is devoted to the care of outpatients, often in a community, in contrast to larger hospitals, which also treat inpatients. Some grow to be institutions as large as major hospitals, whilst retaining the name clinic. These are often associated with a hospital or medical school.

General practice clinics are run by one or several general practitioners or practice managers. Physiotherapy clinics are usually operated by physiotherapists and psychology clinics by clinical psychologists, and so on for each health profession. Some clinics are operated in-house by employers, government organizations or hospitals and some clinical services are outsourced to private corporations, specialising in provision of health services. In China, for example, owners of those clinics do not have formal medical education. Health care in India, China, Russia and Africa is provided to vast rural areas by mobile health clinics or roadside dispensaries, some of which integrate traditional health practices. In India these traditional clinics provide ayurvedic medicine and unani herbal medical practice. In each of these countries traditional medicine tends to be a hereditary practice.

Can preventive medicine be primary and medical clinics aid our health care system?
Q. I believe holistic clinics as our forefront could aid us in the cost of health care. In other words preventive medicine clinics aid us in our health and the medical clinics would be free to assist the more argent needs of our people. This would cut down on minor health problems in the emergency rooms and clinics. The upside would be our people would become aware of future illness and how to care for themselves before it became a major issue. Plus we would become more insightful to our own health care and better educated. Yes, our education systems do not truly assist us thoroughly in these matters.

A. It's cute to see someone so naive. What do you think the impact would be on our health if people ate healthy meals, exercised and didn't smoke? It would be amazing. People don't want to hear that, though. They want to abuse their bodies and then take a pill to make it all better.

How much of your local taxes pays for uninsured people in local clinics and emergency rooms?
Q. How much of your state taxes pays for uninsured and underinsured people in clinics and emergencies? How much of your federal taxes pays for uninsured and underinsured people in clinics and emergencies? (just tallying those who are legally in the country and citizens)

A. The true cost of that is difficult, if not impossible to calculate. Let's say someone without insurance has a heart attack, the cost of that person's trip to the mergency room will come out of my local and state taxes, insurance premium, and the hospitals budget. Now let's say that same person was in Canada and had public coverage and instead of having a heart attack had regular check ups, kept up with his health, and prevented him from having a heart attack in the first place. Now which do you think is favorable? It turns out that the second scenario is also cheaper. The fact is that every country with socialized health care pays less for better quality treatmnet that we recieve here. Why? Because when everyone has decent coverage, you… [cont.]

What do you think about Walmart opening up health clinics?
Q. Walmart is already ridiculously crowded and hard to find a parking spot sometimes. I think adding health clinics is going to make the store more crowded and insane.
