From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Medicine is the science and art (ars medicina) of healing humans. It includes a variety of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness. Before scientific medicine, healing arts were practiced along with alchemical and ritual practices that developed out of religious and cultural traditions. The term "Western medicine" was until recently used to refer to scientific and science-based practices to distinguish it from "Eastern medicine" — which are typically based in traditional, story-told, or otherwise non-scientific practices. Contemporary medicine applies health science, biomedical research, and medical technology to diagnose and treat injury and disease, typically through medication, surgery, or some other form of therapy. The word medicine is derived from the Latin ars medicina, meaning the art of healing. Though medical technology and clinical expertise are pivotal to contemporary medicine, successful face-to-face relief of actual suffering continues to require the application of ordinary human feeling and compassion, known in English as bedside manner. GNU Free Documentation License What pain relief medicine should i buy for extracting my wisdom teeth? Q. I just extracted two of my bottom wisdom teeth and i the doctor didn't give me a prescription for pain relief medicine. Can you guys recommend what i should get? Asked by Peter - Mon Jun 18 18:53:26 2007 - - 13 Answers - 1 Comments A. As a dentist myself I always recommend Motrin (Ibuprofen), this is the best Over The Counter pain reliever as it will not only help with pain but will also help with inflammation. I usually recommend that my patients take between 600-800mg for ages over 18. Also try an ice pack, this will help numb the area affected and help with inflammation as well. If the pain becomes severe you may want to consider calling your dentists emergency number for advice or to have him/her call you in some narcotic pain medication. Good luck and feel better soon! Asked by garrett s - Mon Mar 8 18:40:39 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Vitamin C in the form of calcium ascorbate or sodium ascorbate. This is the active ingredient. Make sure you buy high-quality so that you really are getting enough. Just give yourself a boost with this. Alternatively, if you know a good homeopath, mine prescribes "flu drops" for me. All it does is boost your T cells which fight things like colds etc. Answered by Theresa - Mon Mar 8 19:46:57 2010 What is the best medicine to not feel social anxiety?
