can you substitute apple cider vinegar for rice vinegar in Japanese cooking?
Q. im trying to make shrimp sauce and it calls for rice vinegar and i don't have that but i do have apple cider vinegar will that work instead? which would be better white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar?
Asked by XxZebraxX - Sat Apr 17 13:04:45 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Apple cider vinegar will change the flavor. If you only have white and apple, I'd use white if it only calls for a little vinegar; it shouldn't make a big difference. If it's a lot, you might try doing half white and half apple, but it still might alter the taste.

Drunken Chicken Marinade- Balsamic Vinegar Substitute for Apple Cider Vinegar?
Q. can i substitute apple cider vinegar with balsamic vinegar in a drunken chicken marinade? or red wine vinegar?
Asked by christina.yost - Thu Jan 29 14:03:41 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'd use the red wine vinegar. Balsamic actually has a sweet flavor, and too strong of a flavor to use as much as you'd use of the other vinegars for a marinade. Plus, I'm not sure it has enough acidity in it to tenderize your meat (which is why you use vinegar or liquor in a marinade)

A. The difference between vinegars white vinegar is made from green grapes it is sour grape juice Apple cider vinegar is made from sour apple juice there is white wine vinegar and red wine vinegar they are made from either green grapes or red grapes it is basically wine that is not fit to drink So to answer your question unless you are pickling you can use any vinegar you like for salad dressing you might want to try all of the different vinegars out there and fine which one is your favourite recipes are only guides so try different things and you may discover something you love

Will white vinegar be an ok substitute for apple cider vinegar to remove warts?
Q. i have a wart on the edge of my palm on my left hand, but yeah will white vinegar be an acceptable substitute to remove it? I first had it removed with dry ice at the doctors but it came back bigger like weeks after it came off so I'm lost for ideas, your help is MUCH appreciated
Asked by iluvtherollingstones15 - Thu Mar 5 00:53:06 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I removed a wart using Bragg's brand apple cider vinegar. Probably any ACV from a good health food store would work. Almost all "experts" highly recommend organic ACV, not white vinegar or supermarket ACV. However, I can't give you any guarantees on what would work and what would not. It may take time and patience, but compare the two links below and draw your own conclusions. The first link deals with ACV, while the 2nd deals with white vinegar. Good luck.

A. You should use apple cider vinegar BEFORE ever considering white vinegar. The apple cider vinegar helps maintain the ph balance in your body. As white vinegar is harsher and is used more for cleaning purposes. Peace!

A. Talk to your gyno; I don't think anyone douches anymore. (It seems that ladies who douche often end up with infections) To remain clean and fresh, shower with warm water, using a nice smelling soap (carefully -- outside of your body only), and rinse your private areas well; repeat if necessary. Dry. ..then get on with your day.

Is THis a Good Mirin Substitute??
Q. I was looking at my local store for Mirin, and as you can guess they didn't have any. Instead, I bought what I thought is a suitable substitute, Apple Cider Vinegar. Is this a good substitute?? By the way, I'm making a soup if that helps. Ss adding a Tbsp of Honey would make it a bit closer/better for the recipe?
Asked by skullzgurl666 - Fri Aug 1 15:55:22 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Can't tell where either of you got your notions, but Mirin is sweet and sugar is the most common substitute for it. Japanese moms make teriyaki sauce primarily without the Mirin and with sugar.

appple cider vinegar vs white vinegar for a sore throat?
Q. ive seen online that apple cider vinegar as a gargle is great for helping sore throat. what if all i have is white vinegar, will that work as a substitute? has anyone ever tried this? does it work?

A. Apple cider vinegar is definitely a lot better, for sure. The ingredients in this type of vinegar are great bacteria-killers, and will kill the bacteria that is causing this sore throat. Mixed with a bit of salt (just a small bit) it makes a great mixture for gargling! XOXO, Laurie

*****CAN i USE APPLE CIDER VINEGAR INSTEAD OF WHITE VINEGAR FOR A RED VELVET CAKE?*****?
Q. kay, i have everything, but i don't have white vinegar, just apple cider vinegar. is it possible to use that? or is there another substitution for white vinegar? also, is 0.22 fl oz of red food coloring enough? b/c i have only that, and i don't have jell-o, beet juice [or anything like that], kool aid, etc to substitute it with. so, if you know any other substitutions that would be great! thanks<3 PLEASE, i need to make it tonight :)
Asked by :) - Sat May 10 00:35:19 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. use lemon juice instead of white vinegar, and The "2 Tablespoons red Food Coloring" instruction should not be taken lightly. Any less, and you will not get a true red cake. You could substitute and add another color like blue and it would come out purple. The color of course will not effect the taste of your cake, which should still taste great.

What can I do with apple cider vinegar ?
Q. Hello , I recently went to the store to buy some vegetable oil, but due to the similarity of the bottles and close placement accidentally bought apple cider vinegar instead. XD Now, I don't want my money going to waste and it says on the label that the vinegar should be used up before it goes threw natural feculation, so what nifty ways of employing this stuff can you suggest me? How different is it from regular vinegar? What foods could I make with it? Can it be used outside the kitchen as a chemical substitute of something?! I'm listenning. ^^

Can I substitute something for balsamic vinegar in this recipe?
Q. I want to make grilled eggplant tonight using this recipe, however I don't have any balsamic vinegar on hand. I've never had grilled eggplant, so I don't know what to substitute that will taste okay. I have red wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar, and regular vinegar. I also have balsamic viniagrette salad dressing, but i'm sure that's different. Below is the recipe: 1 eggplant 1/2 tsp (2 mL) salt 1/4 cup (50 mL) extra-virgin olive oil 2 tsp (10 mL) balsamic vinegar 1/2 tsp (2 mL) dried oregano Pinch each salt and pepper Preparation: Cut eggplant into 1/2-inch (1 cm) thick slices; sprinkle with salt. Let stand in colander until moisture seeps out, about 10 minutes. Pat dry with paper towel. Whisk together olive oil, balsamic vinegar,… [cont.]
Asked by *JustMe* - Thu Nov 12 17:47:13 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can use the balsamic vinagrette you have instead of the balsamic, olivce oild, oregano, and salt and pepper. Basically the recepie is having you make a balsamic vinagrette with the above ingredients. so take your salad dressing, brush it over the eggplant, and you are good to go. HOWEVER: some balsamic vinagrettes have a lot of added sugar in them, if the one you have is very sweet it might not be the right flavor for this. Taste first, it should be tangy and vinegary, with a slight sweetness.

Q. Asked by Its me )-what were you thinking - Wed Oct 14 13:25:12 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can do as the 1st poster indicated (best solution). In fact, lemon juice is more appetizing than vinegar in a banana cake anyway. or You can eliminate the baking soda and vinegar and replace it with additional baking powder (Only use 1-2 teaspoons) The vinegar or lemon juice will react with the baking soda to create gas and lighten the loaf. The baking powder only needs liquid to activate, and will have the same effect (in fact, baking powder has baking soda as an ingredient) You can bake at 325 for longer without worries
